Nothing Is Ever Promised: A Call to Plan, Protect & Trust

They say life is fragile, but as a mom, that truth hits a little different. We spend our days juggling a million things, packing lunches, folding laundry, praying over scraped knees, and whispering bedtime prayers...and it’s easy to believe we’ll always have tomorrow. But this week’s news about Charlie Kirk was a sobering reminder that tomorrow isn’t promised to any of us. It left me hugging my family a little tighter and thanking the LORD for another day, because every single one truly is a blessing.
And yet, as much as we want to focus on the sweet, ordinary moments, we can’t ignore the hard questions. What would happen to our families if the unimaginable happened? Who would take care of our children, our home, our legacy? These aren’t fun things to think about, but they are necessary, because love isn’t just what we say or feel, it’s also what we prepare for.
Scripture reminds us of this too: “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children” (Proverbs 13:22). As parents, we’re called to think beyond today and to steward what God has entrusted to us in a way that blesses not just our kids, but generations to come.
When “What If” Becomes Reality
The sudden loss of fellow Christian, Charlie Kirk this past week was a shocking reminder of how quickly life can change. None of us expect tragedy, and yet it shows up uninvited. James 4:14 puts it plainly: “You do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”
That verse can feel heavy, but it’s also freeing. It reminds us that while we can’t control tomorrow, we can be faithful today, in how we love, how we live, and how we prepare.
Planning Is an Act of Love
As parents, one of the greatest ways we can love our families is by making sure they’re cared for if something happens to us. Proverbs 27:12 says, “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.” In other words, wisdom looks ahead and prepares.
That’s why I partnered with Trust & Will. They make creating a will or trust simple, affordable, and easy to understand. You don’t need to be a lawyer or spend thousands of dollars. You just need the willingness to put your love into action by protecting your family from uncertainty and legal chaos.
Every Day Is a Gift
Psalm 90:12 teaches us, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Each day we wake up and hear little feet running down the hallway, or see our family gathered around the dinner table, is a gift. And the best way to honor those gifts is to make choices that safeguard their future.
So hug your kids. Tell your spouse how much you love them. Pray over your home. And yes, get your plans in order. Because while we don’t know what tomorrow holds, we can live with peace knowing we’ve done our part today.
Want to Start Today?
If reading this stirs your heart, let this be your nudge to act. Don’t wait. Don’t put it off for “someday.” Get your will and trust together today. Trust & Will makes it easy.
A Prayer for Us All
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of today. Thank You for our families, our children, our homes, and every blessing You’ve entrusted to us. Teach us to number our days and to walk in wisdom. Give us courage to face what’s hard, faith to trust You with tomorrow, and love that prepares and provides for the people You’ve placed in our care. May the legacies we leave be rooted in faith, love, and Your truth. In Your Son Jesus' Name, Amen.
